Now it's too late,
You don’t put a warm blanket
Over a gravestone
Sabine De Vos
CAMPO SANTO
The painter feels how it is being gnawed at his bones
and a rat leaves the grey of his palette
to find the certainly of darkness and death
in a crack in the ground. He thinks: I pinch myself
till I die standing and
this sacred field reveals all his secrets
to my searching eye that weeps
because so much warmth being lost.
He straightens his collar and walks
it’s way among lost friends
until he too will stop at the last door.

It took me years to be able
to paint like a classical painter
but a lifetime to be able
to paint like a child
Pablo Picasso
In the period 1974–1990, drawing with charcoal was
the main focus of my work. Colour came only later,
sporadically and slowly growing.
